I’ve never been much of a dessert person—unless there’s alcohol involved, but that’s a story for another blog. Still, when you’re married to someone with a serious sweet tooth—and whose extended family shares the same sugary inclinations—you quickly learn to brace your sugar-averse palate. Like it or not, desserts become part of the landscape. And over time, even the most reluctant taste buds start to adapt... or at least tolerate the occasional indulgence.
Good thing there's always caffeine to fall back on, and luckily my wife's new love Heuk Hwa Dang, HHD for short, makes very good espressos.
This relatively new addition to Midtown Manhattan's Koreatown gastropolis of sorts has everything a confectionery enthusiast would want! Croiffle (croissant and waffle hybrid), cracker, bubble tea, ice cream, smoothie, fruit snow flake (shaved ice with fruits), coffee and tea—they have it. We've had the Mango Berry Snow Flake shown top left, which can easily be shared among four diners. The Strawberry Croiffle, probably just two—to share with other treats on the menu.
The video below captures the two instances we've checked out HHD, plainly a harbinger of more future visits to come.
