One Monday evening, a good friend and her husband graciously treated us — along with another close friend — to a delightful seafood and crab dinner at Gusteau's, a well-loved spot tucked along San Miguel Street in General Santos. As expected, the food was a feast: rich, flavorful, and clearly the work of a kitchen that knows how to honor the ocean.
After the indulgent meal, our hosts suggested we continue the night at a speakeasy-style bar just upstairs — a place they highly recommended for its unique atmosphere and diverse drink selection. The idea of a secret bar, hidden above a seafood restaurant, was intriguing enough on its own.
Unfortunately, we arrived to find the place closed for the night — apparently one of their off days. Slightly disappointed but still in good spirits, we redirected to an "okay" alternative elsewhere in town to wind down the evening.
Later that week, another friend and I — both first-timers now — returned to check out the speakeasy properly. And this time, it was open. From the moment we stepped in, it was exactly as described: a space that felt both elegant and intimate, almost as if designed to be discovered rather than advertised.
A tastefully designed bar greeted us near the staircase entrance, glowing under warm ambient light. The layout was deliberate — tables for two softly lit (or dimmed) to encourage private conversation, while cozy corners were perfect for small groups looking to tuck themselves away in quiet company.
Since we weren’t planning to stay long, we kept it simple — a couple of beers and some bites from their skewer bar menu. Just enough to get a feel for the place without committing to the full experience.
Now that I’ve had a glimpse, I’ll definitely be back — this time for the full vibe, the crafted cocktails, and maybe a longer night in one of those discreet little corners.
